Blackberries - The Health Benefits

Blackberries and raspberries are high in vitamins A, C, and calcium and Iron.  So hey this food is good for you - more reasons to enjoy a great blackberry recipes.  Care should be taken when handling the berries are they are easily damaged and bruised.  Blackberries are one of natures fat free foods and at the same time they are high in fiber.

Caneberries, which include blueberries, are nutraceuticals, that is food that provides medical or health benefits.

Blackberries have a high content of ellagic acid, a naturally occurring organic acid that according to medical studies inhibits the initiation of cancer cells induced by certain chemicals.

None of this should really be all that surprising, before the use of chemicals in food, and before smoking few people died of cancers.  It would have been normal in the far distant past for our ancestors to eat berries where they found them and they would have been better for this. In blackberries we have something that is good for us and tastes great at the same time, so go and add some berries to your diet today.

When you pick blackberries make sure you only pick ripe berries - you can tell that they are ripe because they will be ripe all over and have no red left on them at all. Regarding storage - the fridge is better or somewhere cool and dark, also you do not have to wash them before you store them - but do before eating them.
